CF Metropolitika is a distinguished font of Stella Project. Its main characteristic is that it is an upright —and not inclined— handwritten font, something quite rare among the archival material studied. At its core is the signage of the “Metropolitikon” pastry shop in the center of Athens, an upright handwritten font, particularly expressive, with a very calligraphic feel and connected characters. With few other upright script examples, the font was “invented” and all the characters reconstructed based on this signage. Another element that characterizes it is the joints between the characters, which makes it look like continuous writing, namely the pen is guided from one letter to another without lifting from the paper. To achieve this it was necessary to design hundreds of alternate characters and ligatures from which matching ones are selected automatically as you type. CF Metropolitika supports Greek Monotonic and Extended Latin character sets as well as a full numbering set. The initial drafts were designed circa 2012-13 while its implementation started and was delayed for a while. It was finally designed in 2023-24 by Panagiotis Haratzopoulos. Karolina Knapik helped in the initial designs, while the contribution of Tasos Varipatis is important in the expansion of the character set, the technical support and the addition of opentype features code.
